Bitcoin issue: Replaced by an RBF transaction
The wallet re-signed the transaction with a higher fee (Replace-By-Fee). The original txid disappears from the mempool and only the replacement can confirm — the original was never valid on chain.
Why it happens
- You clicked 'speed up' in the wallet and it re-broadcast a replacement.
- The wallet automatically bumped the fee (fee bumping) after estimating the original was too low.
- Two devices used the same UTXOs and the second broadcast replaced the first.
How to fix it
- Look up the most recent transaction spending the same inputs — that is the one that will confirm.
- Do not wait for the old txid to confirm; it never will.
- To avoid this in future, disable RBF in wallets that allow it, or set a realistic fee at send time.
- Note the replacement keeps the same recipients unless the wallet changed them during the bump.
What it looks like in the wallet or explorer
original txid gone from mempool — replacement visible with higher fee spending the same input
Seeing this right now? Paste the transaction hash — the tool finds the chain and decodes what actually failed.
