TRON error: Out of energy (OUT_OF_ENERGY)
The smart-contract call consumed more Energy than the transaction provided, so the TRON virtual machine stopped mid-execution and reverted. The Energy (or the TRX burned for it) is still charged.
Why it happens
- The account had no free Energy left (600 Energy per day from staked bandwidth) and not enough TRX to burn.
- The contract (often a USDT transfer on a busy day) needed more Energy than the estimated allowance.
- The receiver's USDT address had never been touched, so the transfer had to initialise storage — roughly 3× the Energy of a normal transfer.
- Energy delegation expired or the staked TRX was withdrawn before the transaction landed.
How to fix it
- Stake more TRX for Energy, or keep a buffer of TRX so the burn can cover the shortfall.
- Ask the receiving address to make one small USDT transfer first — after initialisation, transfers cost far less Energy.
- Delegate Energy to the sending address instead of relying on the free daily quota.
- Retry after a few minutes: TRON Energy prices swing with the chain's activity (dynamic Energy model).
